WordPress 2.5 And New Terminology
I had a member ask a simple question recently, which I answered. And then needed to answer AGAIN – – because of WP 2.5!
It may seem small, but WordPress 2.5 is a radical departure from previous versions – in much the same ways 2.0 changed from 1.5.2
In the above case, I was explaining how to change the themes using the Presentation tab – understandably, he was confused, because in 2.5 it’s Design, not Presentation.
A quick comparison shows more differences in the menu system – and of course the layout of the Admin pages is radically different.
I understand the benefits, since the Admin tabs are easier for new users to work with (and ‘Design‘ does make more sense than ‘Presentation‘).
However, it means a great deal of change. For example, guides and manuals will have to reedited. older Videos will be confusing. And so on.
As a programmer, I understand new and interesting designs – but there’s familiarity in the ‘same old, same old’ as well.
In any case, I’m hoping that this design is a long-term change – and that radically changed Admin panels do not end up being a frequent feature of WordPress!
