How To Share The Load (Off-Topic)

I read an interesting post on server balancing – the problem was how to divide the work between servers, so each got a fair amount, based on their abilities?

It makes sense – after all, if you split evenly, and the servers aren’t even, you’re overworking one and underworking the other.

It’s a fun computer science issue I solved years ago (and has no doubt been solved many times before me), but it has a real world use.

Big companies split their sites across many servers, and not all have the same capacity. If one can handle three times the load, it should of course get three times the visits.

However, rather than getting into PHP code and tech issues here on on ActiveBlogging (where we deal with HOW TO MAKE MONEY WITH BLOGS) I’ve put it on my site Utopia Mechanicus (where we deal with how COMPUTERS ARE OUR FRIENDS), and you can explore it in more detail.

And of course, if the idea of having more servers for a site interests you, you can also try this Wikipedia article on load balancing.
