Why Use Free eBay Listings?

If you’re an eBay fan, then you’ve already seen the special – five free eBay listings a month. A great idea for eBay; they lose a few pennies on listings, but gain huge on commissions. Why?

If you’re like me, a free listing means one thing: large ticket sales. Items I couldn’t afford to list time after time can now be out there. eBay loses a few microwatts of power adding my listing to their serves; but they could gain big if I sell (I even went ahead and tested a few domain name auctions on eBay).

But you can also use it for testing. See if something (or product line) is interesting, and then expand on it. New products (or businesses) could be started this way.

It’s a smart idea, and I hope eBay doesn’t stop it in the future. I predict they’ll find it enormously profitable, and I’m even wondering if they (or someone else) will twig to the idea of totally free listings – just earn on the commission. After all, it’s just bytes…
