How To Keep Up Your Blogging, And Write Even When You Don’t Want To

  • Don’t be too hard on yourself. If the articles are good, and you’re providing solid ‘food’, then you can relax. After all, how many blogs have you seen where 100% of the articles grab you, day in and day out?
  • Ask for help. Many of the popular blogs have alternate writers come in from time to time, especially during vacations. Now would be a good time to find other people in your niche, and offer to exchange articles as appropriate. Not only do you get someone to help out on your blog, but by helping out on theirs, you get extra exposure.
  • Keep your research. EVERYTIME you do something, make notes. If you blog about food, note every recipe that catches your eye, jot down details about restaurants you visited, and so on. Keep them organized (including bookmarked links if you have them), and articles can practically write themselves when the major research is at your fingertips.
  • Do lighter articles. This is a tricky one – I DON’T want to recommend thinly copying other people’s articles, or parroting opinions and views from other blogs online. But there is nothing wrong with viewing other blogs and weighing in with your opinion. And summarizing what others are saying on a topic can be an easy way to fill a post. However, that said, be warned: readers are smart, and if you do posts that are just summaries of what they can find elsewhere – they WILL find it elsewhere!
  • Relax. In the early days of blogs, people tried to post far too frequently (nowadays, that sort of thing is found on Twitter). But no one reads that much. The key to remember is that while consistent articles on your blog build up search engine pages (which means more potential visitors), and encourage frequent search engine visits, skipping a day or two isn’t likely to spoil that. So you can take a day off and relax.

There’s many more things to do of course, but this can get you up and running on a bad day. With a little preparation, blog posts can be streamlined, and you CAN keep the momentum going – and who knows, many be even have a day or two off once a year!
