Easily Post By Email In WordPress
Imagine using your email program to post to your blog. Something you’re already comfortable with, making WordPress easier to use.
While email is no match for WordPress and its interactive editing, there are times you can’t access your blog directly, so email can be a VERY handy feature. For example, when traveling, when there’s no access to Internet cafes (but you do have a email capability on your handheld). And so on.
As well, for those that want to ‘prefill’ a blog with content, email is often easier to use than trying to post 50 or 100 articles into a blog by hand.
The details of setting up email are complicated (and made a rather large article in the May ’08 ActiveBlogging Report). In it, I detail two ways to do the job. And for the simpler method, I mention using two plugins – my Utopia-Cron for timing, and a special email plugin I wrote to manage the line breaks (a built-in annoyance in using WordPress and its default post by email feature).
The good news? Both of these plugins are freely available onsite, so everyone can have simple WordPress email finally. Setting it up is still a bit of a chore, and if you need more information, there’s my report. As well, if you need more features (like sending pictures), I go into an alternative method, using yet another plugin, and explaining step by step in the May issue (get it via Platinum member ship or Gold for the next 2 months).
I’m curious if there’s much interest in email – I’d be happy to expand on the plugin, but I honestly don’t know how many are using the feature. So time (and feedback) will tell…
