In a bizarre reverse of self-promotion, a site that got hardly any visitors is now hugely popular – thanks to the lawyers seeking to shut him down.
This isn’t a new promotional trick (controversy after all is a ‘great’ way to get known), but it seems the lawyers had no clue how the Internet works – try to stifle someone on a blog, and the blogger might just talk about it.

I like WordPress – a lot.
I use it daily, program in it, write about it, and make a living from it – but apparently there’s a big difference between like and love in the WP world.
Witness Ed Morita, who decided to tattoo his arm with the WordPress logo because it made such a difference in his life.
My guess? His kids (if he reproduces) will be making fun of him in about 20 years when WordPress has mutated into something else, and the brand is long gone.

The maintenance update of WP 2.7.1 is out, and I finally decided to update my various blogs (except MU of course – the update for it will be out shortly). Good news – the built-in upgrade code made upgrading incredibly fast – under 30 seconds for my blog.
It’s easy, fixes some bugs, and worth the (minimal) effort – however, remember to check plugins for conflicts, and don’t delete any backup files until you’ve checked your site over. And of course do a backup of your database – just in …

New with WordPress 2.7, there’s the option to upgrade from within the program.
But another less noticed fact is you can completely install plugins from within WP as well.
The new system lets you search the WordPress plugins site and install any plugin you see there – automatically. A big step up from the older solution, which involved downloading, unzipping, uploading to your site, and activating.
