Blogs benefit from energy – but if the energy is misplaced or misdirected, it can really hurt your blog’s chances.

Sounds stupid/silly/obvious?

Yes – and no. The proof is that posts occasionally vanish on blogs.

We’ve all seen it – a somewhat ‘out there’ rant that’s gone the next day.

People occasionally write THEN think. The result, even if online for a few minutes, can affect people, and not always positively – and can hurt your blog. The key is to avoid it whenever possible.

If you’ve looked in the wp-config.php file of WordPress from 2.5 on, you’ll see a little something extra:

define(‘SECRET_KEY’, ‘put your unique phrase here’);

This secret key is used to make cookies more secure – and by extension, your blog.

It’s worth adding to add extra security at little effort, but it’s not automatic.

For example, if you use the install routine of WordPress, the latest version will create a random key for you. But if you do this by hand it won’t.

A display bug occurs in the ABTheme Admin section under WP 2.5 – columns in the Menu and Layout tabs are shrunk down. They work, but it’s a pain to use. So, since we are all now moving to 2.5.1 (NOT 2.5) here’s an interim patch (either option):

Replace the /wp-admin/wp-admin.css file. This download has the modified wp-admin.css style sheet for WordPress 2.5.1 – DO NOT use it in any other version! To use it, unzip and upload to your blog, replacing that single file. You may have to refresh …

One month, and an update has arrived for 2.5 – WP 2.5.1, with an important security fix that makes it vital to upgrade. And with a bunch of bug fixes (70 according to their site) I guess it’s time to upgrade to the 2.5 series.
